Heated Towel Rack - Make Your Bathroom Warm And Luxurious

Most of us dread stepping out of the warm shower on those cold winter mornings. While we cannot avoid this situation we can certainly make it more comfortable. The answer is a heated towel rack. It is a bar or rack that can be plugged in anywhere and it performs the function of keeping your towels, face cloths and hand towels warm. You often see them in fancy hotels and spas but they can be mounted in your home too. It is certainly a luxury to step out of the shower and wrap your body in a warm towel.

While it’s primary purpose is to warm the towels it performs other tasks as well. It can be used as a passive dryer. It you mount one in the kitchen you can dry your wet dishtowels on it. If you have one in your laundry room you can put the extra clothes that don’t fit into the dryer on it. It is also perfect for delicate clothes that cannot be put into the dryer, rain soaked socks, mittens, snow hats and even your swim suits. But as these racks are not completely water proof you must be careful.

Being energy efficient it can be used as a low impact heating unit. It costs you the same as lighting a light bulb and so it is often kept on 24 hours a day. It helps keep the bathroom warm and also dries out the humid air from otherwise damp areas, thus keeping them mold and yeast free.

The variety of heated towel racks available is mind boggling. They are made from various materials like chrome, brass, nickel, etc. There are a lot of different sizes and designs in the market. This way you can choose one that compliments the décor of your bathroom or kitchen. You can buy a free standing one or a wall mounted model. A free standing model will give you the versatility of moving it around but if you want to save some floor space you are better off going with a wall mounted one.

Heated towel racks use one of the 2 warming technologies – electric or hydronic.

Electric – They can be plugged anywhere that there is an electric outlet. Alternatively they can be hard wired into your home’s electric system and will begin working whenever your furnace does. The metal rods of the rack are filled with oil and when switched on a filament will heat the oil which in turn will heat the metal.

Hydronic – The hydronic units are connected to the home’s plumbing and will be warmed by the water heater. This makes them easy to use and energy efficient.

You will find a large selection in stores like Lowes and Home Depot. But there are a lot of retailers selling them online as well. As mentioned above you will have to decide on a few factors before you start looking around such as  - electric or hydronic, free standing or wall mounted, material and design. As the price range varies largely you must decide what your budget is.
